Do any of these issues look familiar?
It may be because of the following
All these symptoms and issues are linked to gut health. Heal your gut and you'll be amazed at how much better you feel.
How I can help you
Initially I assess:
Your symptoms, what may be triggering these and links to other issues
Laboratory tests to gain a better understanding of what your root cause may be
How much stress you're under and how you're sleeping
The likelihood of something more sinister, like a gastrointestinal disease
Your diet, eating behaviours and your relationship with food, in particular, looking at these as potential issues:
- Gas producing vegetables (onion, cabbage, legumes, etc.)
- Alcohol
- Caffeine
- Spicy foods
- Fatty foods
- Low fluid intake
- Chewing and eating times
- Cooking methods
Food intolerances, especially milk/ lactose and wheat/ gluten
How physically active you are
Possible red flags, like headaches, diarrhoea, constipation, etc.
Depending on the person, these are some of the strategies I may use to help you:
Elimination diet
Taking out foods/ drinks like gluten, dairy, red meat, FODMAP foods, caffeine, refined carbs and alcohol for a certain period (depending on the severity of the symptoms) and working on healing the gut. After 2 weeks we'll start adding foods back and monitor reactions.
Probiotics/ Prebiotics
The bacteria in your gut is responsible for overall health, they support your immune system, make nutrients and help control digestion. Probiotics repopulate lost bacteria and prebiotics feed the bacteria. These are available in food and supplement form.
Digestive Enzymes
You could be eating healthy foods but not absorbing key nutrients from these foods and therefore still feeling ill. Digestive enzymes can help break down certain foods allowing your body to absorb the nutrients.
Supplements and herbs
These can help lower inflammation and heal a gut that may be damaged. They may also be needed for constipation.
